The Wilbur along with Oaktree Development Group were awarded the 2019 C. Emlen Urban Award Community Revitalization. Since its’ founding in 1966, the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County has been involved in preserving dozens of Lancaster County’s important architectural landmarks and has provided advice, assistance, and guidance in the protection of many others. For example, the Trust was instrumental in preserving the stunning historic façade of the former Watt & Shand Department Store (currently a striking aspect of the Marriott at Penn Square) that helps to retain the unique character of downtown Lancaster.
The mission of the Trust is to educate and advocate for the preservation of historic sites and properties in Lancaster County. One way of completing our mission is through our annual awards program, the C. Emlen Urban Awards, named after Lancaster’s preeminent architect. We are asking for your help in recognizing the heroic efforts of persons or projects in the area that have made significant contributions to preserving Lancaster’s architectural history by submitting a nomination. The awards program not only honors projects and individuals; it also educates and encourages historic preservation.
